Google is not always the librarian’s first choice when undertaking research.
However, it is certainly the most famous search engine on the web, and pupils will usually head straight for it when asked to research any topic or find something.
You will find yourself swimming against the tide in many cases if you discourage use of Google.
Sometimes, it may be a better plan to go with the flow, and try and advise them how to get the best out of it, if they do insist on using it.
If users practise using even the most basic search techniques and syntax, they will soon be improving their search results, which will hopefully help to improve their work.
